Frá fjalli til fjöru, gönguhátíð á Akranesi

The From Mountain to Shore Hiking Festival will take place in Akranes on Saturday, June 20, 2026. This is a fun and varied hiking event where participants can choose a route that suits their ability and interest. The festival combines beautiful nature, exercise, and a great atmosphere as participants hike from the mountains down to the sea in the unique surroundings of Akranes. 

Three different hiking routes are available. The Highland Route is the longest route and includes a full loop around Akrafjall mountain, with a total distance of just over 30 km. The Lowland Route is a shorter hike of about 15 km, which stays in the lowlands and does not include Akrafjall. The Short Walk (Spölur) is for those who want to join the final part of the hike or walk only a short section. Registration is not required for this part, but participants are welcome to make a 2,000 ISK contribution on this page to support the event. 

Participants may start or leave the hike at different points along the route depending on what suits them best. It will also be possible to join the hike at designated points near the end of the route or participate in only part of the hike. 

The participation fee includes marked routes, guidance, and event identification for participants. The event is suitable both for experienced hikers and for those who simply want to enjoy the outdoors in good company. 

Children up to 12 years old participate for free, however children younger than 12 are not expected to join the hike on Akrafjall mountain.

🕘 Hikes start at: 09:00 and 14:00 

Ticket prices: 

• Highland Route: 6,000 ISK
• Lowland Route: 5,000 ISK
• Short Walk / Support contribution: 2,000 ISK
• Free for children (12 years and younger)
